making strides
Making Strides was the first "web" story my team did and was the first project that I decided to get out of my comfort zone and use one of the publications’ lenses rather than my personal, standard ones. It was a small step, but it still meant progress.
The event went well if you can ignore that my anxiety around interviews caused me to not do them for captions and my anxiety around priority modes caused me to stay on manual and get overexposed photos. After various problems with the whole story, it was cut to a social media post.
Breast cancer survivors, Marvel Hooper (pictured left) and Katy Rice (pictured right), both enjoyed their weekend at the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Saturday, Oct. 30. The walk has been a staple of Dreyfoos’ largest club, A.R.T.S. Club, for the last 20 years. “I love it,” Rice said. “I love it every time when a lot of people come out, and I like to see young people fighting for a cause that hopefully they don’t have to go through.” Caption by Sheevam Patel
Visual senior and A.R.T.S. Club co-president William Dhana participated in the walk, and he was thrilled with not only the turnout that he received from his club, but also the money raised by them. “We had 70 [members] show up [to the walk],” Dhana said. “It feels great seeing so many people come out. It's a 1/5 turnout of a very large club, so that's huge for us. The entire A.R.T.S. club team raised around $1,000." Caption by Sheevam Patel
